Hittin' the road

My stay at the monastery is done, headed home today. Looked
pretty nasty last night, severe thunderstorms in the area, but it
looks to be clearing out today.
Got exciting during Night Prayer last night. We're standing in the
totally dark church, chanting the Psalms, while outside, huge
thunder crashes, tremendous lightning, and terrifying winds
howling around the building! But, we're still here, the V-Strom
is still upright in the parking lot. All is well.
An interesting article from the news media this morning:
The media, as usual, tries to get ratings by making sensational headlines. But the article was good if read to the end.

The primary purpose of life is union with God, with Jesus. If we obsess over other things, our lives end up being empty. This is what the Pope is saying. Our very purpose in life, the only thing that will really give us joy and fulfillment in life, is union with God. We tend to think other things are important, and obsess over them. We, as fallen humans, tend to get all wrapped up in less important things, our sexuality, our careers, our possessions, status, power. None of these will bring us fulfillment. Only that close connection with God will give us that.
Living for these other things will only get in the way of our happiness. To live for these other things is what's called "disordered", and will only bring us disappointment. This is the teaching of the Church, and the message of the Pope.

  1. Hope you had a great ride home yesterday and didn't get stuck in any storms.

  2. Nice sunny day. Should have a nice ride home. Leaving in a couple of hours.

  3. Dan:

I'm not sure obsessing with riding can be called obsessive if it gives us joy to pursue other ambitions

enjoy your good weather while you can, it can't last much longer . . .
